Business To Business, Chennai, 8th May, 2026: In a significant boost to its government formation efforts in Tamil Nadu, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by Vijay on Friday secured the support of the two Left parties, moving closer to the majority mark of 118 legislators in the Assembly.
The Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), both allies of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, said their decision was aimed at preventing what they described as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “backdoor entry” into the state.
The Left parties clarified that while they would support TVK in government formation, they would continue to remain aligned with the DMK on issues related to state rights and would not join the proposed TVK cabinet.
The CPI and CPI(M), which hold two seats each in the Assembly, announced their support after day-long deliberations. With their backing, Vijay is expected to meet Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar later in the day to renew his claim to form the government.
