Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attacks Mamata govt over law and order, infiltration in Bengal

Business To Business, Kolkata, 03 March 2026: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday launched a sharp attack on the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal over the law and order situation, alleging that it was sheltering infiltrators.
Addressing a ‘Poriborton Yatra’ rally in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas, the BJP leader accused the state administration of failing to curb illegal activities.
Key Allegations
Chouhan alleged that:

  • The state government was providing protection to infiltrators.
  • Fake Aadhaar and voter identity cards were being prepared.
  • There were attempts to alter the region’s demographic profile.
He also criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that despite having a woman chief minister, cases of crimes against women continue.
Political Context
The remarks come amid intensified campaigning by the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The ‘Poriborton Yatra’ is part of the BJP’s statewide outreach to mobilise support and sharpen its attack on the ruling TMC.
The TMC has previously rejected similar allegations, calling them politically motivated.
