Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, Kolkata, 6th June, 2026: Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday alleged that several railway projects in West Bengal had remained stalled for years due to what he described as a lack of cooperation from the previous administration led by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Speaking after a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the state secretariat, Nabanna, Vaishnaw claimed that railway projects had faced obstacles related to permissions, land acquisition issues, and legal challenges under the former TMC government. He characterized the previous administration as "vikas virodhi" (anti-development).
The Railway Minister asserted that with a change in the state's administration and improved coordination between the state and central governments, work on pending railway projects would now be accelerated.
Vaishnaw also announced plans to modernize the metro system, stating that 60 next-generation trains would be introduced on the Kolkata Metro over the next five years.
These remarks represent political allegations and assessments made by Vaishnaw regarding the previous government's handling of railway projects. The claims concerning responsibility for project delays would require independent verification and may be contested by political opponents.
