Business To Business, New Delhi, 25th July, 2026: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday appointed veteran parliamentarian Saugata Roy as its deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, filling a key parliamentary position that had fallen vacant following the departure of Satabdi Roy from the party.
The appointment comes amid significant changes in the TMC's parliamentary ranks after 20 MPs rebelled and later aligned with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), prompting a reshuffle in the party's leadership structure in Parliament.
Satabdi Roy, who had been serving as the TMC's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, was among the MPs who joined the rebel faction, creating the need for a new appointment.
By naming Saugata Roy to the post, the TMC has sought to strengthen its leadership in the Lower House as it reorganises its parliamentary team following the split. Roy is one of the party's most experienced MPs and has represented the TMC in Parliament for several terms.
