Business To Business, New Delhi, 05th July, 2026: The Congress on Sunday criticised the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) after the organisation wrote to the Ayodhya police seeking evidence from opposition leaders over allegations of donation theft at the Ram temple, accusing the VHP of attempting to "emotionally mislead" Hindu society for political purposes.
Congress media and publicity department head Pawan Khera alleged that fresh claims and purported evidence regarding the alleged misappropriation of donations at the Ram temple were emerging every day.
In a video statement posted on social media platform X, Khera said VHP leader Alok Kumar had written to the investigating officer, asking that evidence related to the alleged theft be sought from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and senior party leader Ram Gopal Yadav.
Questioning the VHP's move, Khera alleged that the organisation's objective was not to uncover the truth but to divert attention from the allegations and influence public sentiment.
"The VHP's only aim is to emotionally mislead Hindu society and further its own political interests," he claimed.
The controversy stems from allegations made by several opposition leaders regarding the alleged theft or misappropriation of donations received at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The VHP has rejected the allegations and has sought evidence to substantiate the claims made by opposition leaders.
The matter has intensified the political confrontation between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition, with both sides exchanging sharp accusations over the handling of the issue. Investigating authorities are examining the allegations in accordance with the law.
