Want to bring back Tatas to Singur, send signal Bengal is investor-friendly: Samik Bhattacharya

Business To Business, Kolkata, 29th May, 2026:    Samik Bhattacharya on Friday said the West Bengal government wants the Tata Group to return to Singur, describing it as both an economic necessity and a symbolic move to signal that the state is once again open to investment.
In an interview discussing the BJP government’s industrial vision after its electoral victory in the state, Bhattacharya said bringing the Tatas back to Singur would help reverse what he termed the “wrong message” sent to investors after the controversial exit of the Tata Nano project nearly two decades ago.
“We want the Tatas to come back, and that too in Singur. We want to send a message to the entire country and the world that West Bengal is investor-friendly and is ready to welcome investments,” he said.
The Singur issue became one of the most prominent industrial and political controversies in modern Bengal politics after protests over land acquisition led to the relocation of the Tata Nano plant from the state in 2008.
