WB poll: BJP scripts history, Mamata loses Bengal and Bhabanipur

Business To Business, New Delhi, 5th May, 2026: In a mandate as sweeping as it is symbolic, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday scripted history by winning 206 seats, securing a more than two-thirds majority in the West Bengal Assembly elections and ending the All India Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule—marking a decisive shift in the state’s political landscape.
The verdict gained added political significance as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was defeated in the high-profile Bhabanipur seat by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, completing a dramatic turnaround after early trends had suggested an advantage for the TMC supremo.
What began as tentative leads soon consolidated into a decisive wave for the BJP, which finished with 206 seats. The TMC lagged behind, winning 79 seats and leading in two more, according to data from the Election Commission of India at midnight.
