Will cooperate with police but entitled to fight for restoration of Article 370: Iltija Mufti
Business To Business Srinagar, 07 August, 2026: Iltija Mufti on Friday said she was willing to cooperate with the police investigation into allegations of assaulting a police officer during a recent protest, while maintaining that it was her democratic right to protest peacefully for the restoration of Article 370.
The case relates to a protest organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, marking the anniversary of the August 5, 2019 decision that revoked the special status of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Case registered
Police have booked:
- Mehbooba Mufti
- Iltija Mufti
The FIR alleges that the two leaders assaulted a police officer during the protest.
The case has been registered under the following provisions of the
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita:
- Section 132
- Section 121
- Section 191(2)
Iltija Mufti's response
Speaking after being questioned by the police, Iltija Mufti said:
- She is prepared to cooperate fully with the investigation.
- She believes it is her constitutional and democratic right to hold peaceful protests seeking the restoration of Article 370.
The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and the registration of a case does not by itself establish guilt.
