Won’t allow BJP to snatch voting rights, will fight till end: Mamata
Business To Business, Kolkata, 03 March 2026: Mamata Banerjee, speaking after Eid prayers in Kolkata, accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to undermine voting rights.
Banerjee claimed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is:
Leading to large-scale deletion of voter names
Being used to influence the upcoming assembly elections
- The BJP-led Centre under
Narendra Modi
- The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has:
- Strongly opposed the revision exercise
- Framed it as a threat to democracy
Banerjee stated that her party will
“fight till the end” to protect:
- Voting rights
- Democratic processes
- Electoral roll revisions are routine before elections
- However, they often become politically sensitive if:
- Voter names are removed
- Allegations of bias or irregularities arise
This marks an escalation in
political tensions ahead of elections, with the TMC alleging voter suppression, while the issue is likely to remain a major flashpoint in the state’s political landscape.
