‘Symbol of deep public trust': Baluni hails Modi’s milestone of 4,399 consecutive days in office
Business To Business, New Delhi, 10th June, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday celebrated a political milestone as Narendra Modi became India's longest continuously serving prime minister.
According to the BJP, Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office on Wednesday, surpassing the record of Jawaharlal Nehru, who served continuously for 4,398 days.
The achievement relates specifically to continuous service as prime minister.
BJP's Response
BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni described the milestone as more than a personal record.
In a post on X, Baluni said the achievement reflected:
- The trust reposed in Modi by the people of India.
- Public support for his leadership.
- The country's commitment to the vision of a developed India.
He stated that the record symbolized the faith of India's 1.4 billion citizens in the prime minister's governance and developmental agenda.
Modi first assumed office as Prime Minister in May 2014 and has continued in the position through successive electoral victories. By crossing the 4,399-day mark without interruption, he has overtaken Nehru's continuous tenure record.
It is important to note that discussions about prime ministerial tenure can involve different measures, such as:
- Continuous time in office.
- Total time served across multiple terms.
- Time served in elected office more broadly.
The BJP's statement specifically refers to uninterrupted service as prime minister.
The milestone comes as the government continues to highlight achievements under Modi's leadership, while opposition parties continue to debate and scrutinize the administration's record on economic, social, and governance issues.
For supporters, the record is evidence of sustained public confidence; for critics, it serves as a reminder of the importance of continued democratic accountability regardless of tenure length.
