Business To Business, Hong Kong, 11 September 2025: Emerging Indian badminton prodigy Ayush Shetty delivered a remarkable upset at the Hong Kong Open Super 500 tournament on Thursday, defeating the 2023 World Championships silver medalist Kodai Naraoka of Japan in a fiercely contested three-game battle, thereby advancing to the men's singles quarterfinals.
The 20-year-old from Karnataka, who claimed the US Open Super 300 title in June, demonstrated his aggressive style and exceptional court coverage to outmaneuver the former world No. 2 Japanese player with scores of 21-19, 12-21, 21-14 in a gripping 72-minute encounter.
Ayush is set to face his compatriot and Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy teammate, Lakshya Sen, in the quarterfinals.
