Business To Business, Glasgow, 28th July, 2026: Sharmila Dhankar etched her name in Indian sporting history by becoming the country's first-ever Commonwealth Games para-athletics gold medallist, while Sarvesh Kushare, Valluri Ajaya Babu and Gyaneshwari Yadav added three silver medals to India's tally in an impressive day at the multi-sport event.
Sharmila produced a season-best throw of 9.81 metres to clinch the women's shot put F57 title late on Monday, securing a landmark victory for Indian para-athletics.
Her achievement also ended India's 20-year wait for a para-athletics medal at the Commonwealth Games. The country's previous medal in the discipline came in 2006, when Ranjith Kumar Jayaseelan won a medal in the men's seated discus throw event.
India also celebrated three silver medals during the day. Sarvesh Kushare finished runner-up in the high jump, while weightlifters Valluri Ajaya Babu and Gyaneshwari Yadav each secured a silver medal in their respective events.
The performances marked another successful outing for the Indian contingent, with Sharmila's historic gold standing out as a milestone for the country's para-sports movement.
