End of an era: Veteran sports administrator Randhir Singh dies

Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th May, 2026:  Randhir Singh, one of India’s most influential sports administrators and the country’s first Asian Games shooting gold medallist, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 79 after battling age-related ailments.
Singh had been hospitalised for several days before breathing his last at his residence. He is survived by his wife Vinita and daughters Mahima, Sunaina, and Rajyashree Kumari, who is also associated with shooting sports.
A distinguished shooter, Randhir Singh created history by becoming India’s first shooting gold medallist at the Asian Games. Beyond his achievements as an athlete, he became one of the most powerful and respected figures in Asian sports administration.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, Singh held several key positions, including:

  • Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA)
  • Senior roles within the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)
  • Leadership responsibilities across multiple international sporting bodies
He recently stepped down as President of the Olympic Council of Asia because of health concerns.
Randhir Singh played a major role in shaping India’s engagement with international sports governance and was instrumental in promoting Olympic sports across Asia. He was widely regarded as a bridge between Indian sports institutions and global sporting organisations.
His death marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian sports administration, with tributes expected from athletes, administrators, and Olympic bodies across India and Asia.
